Clean Eating While Eating Out

These ladies were eating in a restaurant nearly every episode. While I don't suggest eating out that often, it's possible to eat clean when you go out to eat. It just takes some planning and discipline.

Often clean eating means there's nothing you can eat when you go out. And I don't know about you but I'm not about to lock myself up in the house just because I want to eat healthy. Clean eating at a restaurant is possible, if you have a plan. I went to Red Lobster recently (I was a passenger in a car, not my idea) and made it do what it do. I scoured the restaurant for something that was healthy and decided to stick with what I'd resolved to do before I ever got there. I ordered
a side of scallops-no cream, not drowning in butter, none of that. And they were delicious. I also had half of my mom's baked potato with just salt and a little butter. And I had asparagus (which was very well seasoned) and a garden salad. The salad was iceberg lettuce (boo) but with some salt and oil and vinegar, it was okay.

So if you are a social butterfly who feels like you can't enjoy food without some creamy, cheesy, processed pizzazz, try these tips:

1. Make a plan. Look at the menu online before you get to the restaurant. That way you already know what you're getting and you're less susceptible to temptation.

2. Look at the side dishes. They almost always consist of some veggies, in just about every restaurant. Get a side of veggies and you can be sure that you're keeping it clean. Now if you drown them in butter or a creamy sauce....hmm, not so much.

3. Drink one to two glasses of water while you wait for your food. When the food gets to the table, you'll already be somewhat full from the water. We all make better decisions when we're not starving.

4. This one is the most important: remind yourself of why you're committing to a clean eating lifestyle. You do not need to tell the whole table about all the chemicals that are in processed food and how you've read all about the study between those chemicals and cancer.  You do need to remind yourself silently, why this is something worth sticking to, in spite of temptation.

Do you eat veggies as a side dish when you go out? Have you tried clean eating? Is anyone reading this blog? lol Let me know, below.
